Israel is loaded with exhibits this March
With March comes the Holy Week, which to Christians commemorates the last week of Christ’s life on Earth, culminating in his crucifixion on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday. With all this religion in the air, you might want to set your sights on a trip to Israel.
Israel is loaded with exhibits this March. Get a glimpse at the life and works of the greatest scientists of the 20th century at the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem. Experience an interactive exhibit of high-tech games, which bring the ancient stones alive and turn them into a playground for the imagination at the Tower of David Museum also in Jerusalem. Travel to Caesarea Harbor and see the 1,700 year old sarcophagus lid decorated with mythological medusa heads among an assortment of unique stone items which constitute tangible evidence of the lives of the rich in Caesarea at a time when the city was a vibrant Roman provincial capital. For more on Israel’s history, visit the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv-Yafo for early photographs and exhibits depicting 400 years of the city’s history, architecture and people.
For mommy and me time, take your kids to an exhibit of traditional and contemporary paper cutouts, origami, papier mache sculptures with the chance to join paper art workshops at the Haifa Museum of Art. Fun family activities with chocolate and marzipan are also offered at the The Marzipan Museum in Kfar Tavor.
Don’t expect that you’ll be the only one rockin’ Israel this March though because there’s a whole line-up of international artists scheduled to perform in Tel Aviv this Summer. The likes of Rod Stewart, Elton John, Paul Anka, and Metallica have already announced their concert dates! No wonder Forbes Magazine recently included Tel Aviv as one of the world’s top party destinations!
If it’s a little dose of the theatre that you crave, catch the 12 blind and deaf actors of Nalaga’at as they give the audience a glimpse of their reality via the kneading, rising and baking of bread at the Nalaga’at Visitors Center in Jaffa, directed by Adina Tal. Or get all nostalgic from childhood memories and yearnings, inspired by dancers’ depictions of rocket landings, choreographed and directed by Tamir Ginz and Daniella Schapira.
If you want to do some exploring and get some good cardio at the same time, join the local rollerblading groups that meet every week for and hour or two of skating through the city on regular 10 to 30-kilometer routes. Or join a bicycle ride guided tour through the hilly terrain of the Galilee organized by the Alon Field Center. Late in the afternoon, join a walking guided tour through the stone-paved alleyways of ancient Jaffa including the Greek Monastery and the Jaffa port organized by the Mishkenot Ruth Danie.
If it’s Israeli cuisine you’re after, stop by the Tel Aviv port for an all-out food fair at the Tel Aviv Peasant’s Market featuring wines, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, all grown from different parts of the country. Or take a class from Erez Komorovsky, renowned bakery-café chain founder as he shares his knowledge and love for locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices and his expertise in the culinary arts of all local and surrounding cultures at the Galilee Cooking School.
Are you booking a flight yet? Maybe to better understand the life of the man many people came to know as the Messiah; what with the rich Christian and Jewish history and culture Israel has to offer. Or even to just explore a new destination. Come see Israel this March! It has, after all, definitely something for travelers of all interests and ages!
